Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
